Got contacted by IT today to give them a list of installed software so had to find a quick way instead of fiddling around by sending screenshots.
OK so to get a list of the installed programs on a machine issue the following command.

get-wmiObject -Class win32_Product > installed_software.txt

This will product a list of installed software into the file called installed_software.txt
Contents are as follows.

IdentifyingNumber : {45A8F8FF-ED9B-40B2-B923-94F46FCF6135}
Name : Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Command Line Utilities
Vendor : Microsoft Corporation
Version : 11.0.2100.60
Caption : Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Command Line Utilities
